Father’s famous phrases

Body

For many, the start of summer is full of excitement for the warm weather and a few months of freedom ahead. There may be adventures, big or small, that one has planned and is looking forward to during the break. For me and my family, the start of summer sings a little different tune.
No sooner has it started than one of my father’s famous phrases gets played loudly, like a broken record caught on the most annoying part of the song. Before my siblings and I would even get to enjoy ANY part of summer, my dad would oh so “encouragingly” declare (sarcasm strongly implied) that with the county fair right around the corner, summer is basically already over!
Over before it even began! Not quite the exciting message we wanted to hear as kids.
There are many family famous phrases my dad will say. If you know him, a few might even come to mind already. Being the talented man of many skills he is -- most of them done to perfection -- he is unable to relate to the everyday struggles of us common, under-qualified folk.
Asking my mother, sisters, and I to do a “simple” task and seeing the painstaking struggle it takes for us to get that task accomplished (sub-par at best), he will frustratingly observe, “I don’t know what is so hard about it!”
We learned quickly throughout the years that if he wants something done right, he is most surely always better off doing it himself.
One of his newest famous key phases, or in this case a single word, gained popularity during the 2020 COVID era.
“Asinine!” Everything was absolutely asinine!
When he would run out of words to express his frustration or disbelief, everything was concisely defined as asinine. I will admit, it is quite a fun word to say. After reading this, it may become one of your favorite words too!
Some of my father’s phrases are very quotable. With Father’s Day coming, I would love to hear all of the famous phrases in your father’s repertoire. See the ad in this week’s A Section and don’t forget to submit your tribute by June 10th!
