When opening Lincoln’s first specialized pelvic floor physical therapy clinic, Empower Physical Therapy, Aurora grad Stefanie (Hansen) Urbom was determined to empower patients in understanding pelvic health. “We’re very passionate and we feel like everyone deserves care,” Urbom said. “If we can help others, it just provides more opportunities for more patients to receive the benefits of pelvic floor therapy.” This “Where Are They Now?” story can be found on Page A4.
After moving upstairs to the District Courtroom, hearing more than an hour of testimony and holding a lengthy discussion, the Hamilton County Board of Commissioners decided to wait to make a final decision on a conditional use permit for S&P Irrigation on Monday morning. The decision to table the controversial matter came, however, after the parties involved indicated they felt they were close to resolving several of the issues that had been in contention for several months.
Dist. 34 Sen. Loren Lippincott was a busy man leading up to last Thursday’s opening of the 109th Legislature. The Central City lawmaker, who is beginning the third session of his first term in the Unicameral, ran for the chairmanship of the legislature’s Rules Committee and was elected on Wednesday, Jan. 7. Lippincott, who also sits on the Appropriations Committee, said he was pleased to play an important role on the select committee dealing with rules which he said acts as “keeper of the rule book” for the legislature and sets new rules “in the never-ending drive to make for a perfect political process.”
Gov. Jim Pillen has announced his appointment of the Honorable Jason M. Bergevin of Columbus as an associate justice to the Nebraska Supreme Court representing the Fifth Judicial District. The announcement was made on Jan. 2. Bergevin was the second of three candidates for the position to be interviewed by the Judicial Nominating Commission on Dec. 12 in the 5th District courtroom on the third floor of the Hamilton County Courthouse.
Having spent five years at its downtown square location, the Tempo Performing Arts Studio will be relocating classes to the building previously operated by Escape Aurora in May. Studio owner and instructor Ashley Parker shared that the opportunity presented itself when she was contacted by Robin Sanderson, who has rented the building from owners Roger and Judy Salmon. “She had reached out to us and just said, ‘You know, I think this would be a really great space for you,’” Parker explained. “...we went over there, we looked at it and instantly knew that it was going to be a great fit for us.”
Aurora’s dance team had the best assistants on the floor Friday night, Jan. 10, to help out with their routines and they go by the name of “Dad.” The annual Aurora Dance Dad-Daughter routine was a huge hit during halftime of Aurora’s double-header against Schuyler, performing to Dolly Parton’s “9-to-5.”
