More than a handful of “red flag” fire weather warnings and watches have been enacted over the past week in and around Hamilton County.
These warnings, according to information released by the National Weather Service Hastings office, were issued due to low relative humidity and high winds.
The most recent warning was issued Thursday, lasting until midnight.
Also according to the National Weather Service in Hastings, a set of three criteria must be met to classify a weather event as a red flag warning. These include: three consecutive hours when relative humidity is less than 20 percent; winds are greater than 15 knots or frequent gusts over 25 knots; or when there is greater than 15 percent coverage of dry lightning expected.
