A public hearing was hosted during the Sept. 13 Hamilton County Board of Commissioners meeting centered on the topic of a proposal for the county to “abandon” Road W and its alleys.
This topic was approached again last week, but was tabled to give concerned parties notification of its appearance again on the agenda.
“Several weeks ago we had a public hearing and we discussed the (abandonment of) Road W because of a bridge wash-out there that would have to be replaced,” said Commissioner John Thomas, standing in for the chairman. “At that time we had some public input and delayed the decision on approving the resolution based on input from the public and suggestion that they would go out and seek signatures or public input, potentially a petition.”
The commissioners were back to that agenda item on Monday, he explained.
Commissioner Roger Nunnenkamp reported that if any signatures had been collected, they should be submitted.
“We have some, but harvest got started and, as well as myself being involved in harvest, we figured all the neighbors and everybody else was harvesting and we didn’t have the time to bother them, or want to bother them at that point in time,” said Jason Poppe, resident of the Road W area in question. “Is there a way we can get an extension on trying to get this all put together? We didn’t think it was fair to go bugging the neighbors and everybody else when they’re busy harvesting.”
