Phillips Fire Chief Jason Fry told the Phillips Village Board, of which he is a member, that the tower near the Highway 34 and Highway 2 intersection was being given up by the state of Nebraska, prompting proposals for moving the repeater, or purchasing the tower, that allows for paging communication for emergency services in the western part of Hamilton County.
Hamilton County Sheriff Jeromy McCoy presented options to the Hamilton County Board  of Commissioners Monday, who, after brief discussion, chose to table any immediate decision pending further discussion.
“I believe between the county and the (Phillips) town board, I think we can come up with an option to what works best for the county and to ensure that we still have communications for public safety,” Fry said during the Dec. 7 village meeting.
