Morning accident claims Marquette man

Release via Merrick County Sheriff's Office: 

On Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2022, at approximately 5:25 a.m.. emergency crews were dispatched to the area of US Hwy 30 approximately one-half mile west of F Road to investigate the report of a two-vehicle collision.

Upon emergency crews' arrival it was determined that an eastbound SUV, driven by 29-year-old, rural Chapman resident, Zachery J. Schultz, crossed the center line and collided with a westbound sedan, driven by 50-year-old, Marquette resident, Scott M. Ellis. Both drivers were the only occupants in the two vehicles. Both individuals were pronounced deceased on scene. 

The Merrick County Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Nebraska State Patrol, Central City Police Department, the Merrick County Attorney's Office, Chapman Fire and Rescue, and the Central City Volunteer Fire Department. Seatbelts were not in use by either driver. Speed nor alcohol are not believed to be a factor in this accident.
