Haley VanDeWalle has always known that she was going to work with animals. From attaining her veterinary technician degree, working at a pet store and finally becoming the behavioral coordinator for Capital Humane Society in Lincoln she has strived to help animals throughout her young life.
So when the opportunity came up through her work to help rescue animals from the effects of Hurricane Ida, VanDeWalle loaded up and drove down to New Orleans.
“We got six dogs from a smaller rescue called Zeus’ Place Rescue in New Orleans,” she recalled. “This is the first time we’ve ever done anything like this.”
VanDeWalle noted that the shelter’s executive director has had the goal of helping with crisis situations and partnered with Best Friend Animal Society.
