The Aurora Volunteer Fire Department personnel transferred two self-contained breathing apparatuses to the ambulances run by Emergency Medical Services volunteers housed at the EMS headquarters as of last week.
EMS Supervisor Tanner Greenough said this gear will be used in the same circumstances and same way as the firefighting gear is used by volunteers.
“So it’s the same as what firefighters use to go into a fire,” Greenough said. “So when you put on your bunker gear, you put on that SCBA and that’s how you breathe.”
This transfer is part of the integration of emergency medical and fire services that Greenough said would provide techniques that worked during his experiences in Grand Island.
