Live Healthy Health Fair set for Feb. 8.
Event planned inside fairgrounds Commercial Building
The Live Healthy Health Fair is returning to the Hamilton County Fairgrounds for its 28th annual event Saturday, Feb. 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
This year, the health fair will take place inside the Commercial Building, where the community and visitors can meet and learn about health resources provided by healthcare professionals and organizations, according to Tina Hunt, Memorial Community Health marketing director and a co-coordinator alongside Memorial Foundation director ReAnn Regier of Healthy Health Fair.
“The Live Healthy Health Fair offers our community the opportunity to focus on preventative care and individual health and wellness,” Hunt said. “With over 32 exhibitors, attendees will learn about new products, a variety of healthcare services available locally and can visit with organizations who support healthy living. Attendees can also visit with various agencies who offer support to veterans, seniors and more -- and taking advantage of free and discounted screening services.”
The health fair will be in conjunction with the Hamilton County Home & Garden Show on Friday, Feb. 7 from 3-8 p.m. and Saturday, Feb. 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Farr Building.
MCHI will be providing discounted blood profile appointments for blood draws, PSAs, Hemoglobin A1c (diabetic screening) and Vitamin D at Memorial Health Clinic on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Thursday Jan. 30 and Tuesday Feb. 4, 6-8 a.m.
Patients can also schedule a screenings for a carotid artery ultrasound, a abdominal aortic ultrasound or a peripheral artery disease that will be provided at Aurora Memorial Hospital on Saturday, Feb. 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“A carotid artery ultrasound detects plaque deposits in the carotid artery, leading risk factor for stroke,” Hunt explained. “An abdominal aortic ultrasound detects the presence of an aneurysm in the abdominal aorta and a peripheral artery disease screening called the brachial index (ABI) which compares blood pressure in the ankles to blood pressure in the arms to determine how well the blood is flowing.”
All three screenings are available in a package for $100.
Hunt stated that blood profile results will be available during the hours of the health fair.
“MCHI patients may also access their results online through their My MCH Patient Portal,” she said. “Patients who have a provider outside of the MCHI network are responsible for either picking up their results at the Health Fair or requesting that copy of their results be sent to their provider. Cardiovascular screening results will be available through the individual’s named primary care provider.”
People who are getting their blood drawn will need to drink plenty of water and fast 12 hours prior to their scheduled appointment.
“The goal of our annual Health Fair is to support our community and encourage individuals to be proactive in managing their health,” Hunt stated. “MCHI’s discounted blood profiles provide an opportunity to check in on their health status by knowing their numbers, while the cardiovascular screenings help to detect any issues that may need to be addressed. By catching disease as early possible, individuals have the opportunity to treat any issues that may be identified and work toward improving their overall physical wellness.”
