Hamilton County schools compete in Aurora speech invite

Aurora, Giltner, Hampton, High Plains compete

All four Hamilton County Schools’ speech teams competed at the Aurora Invite on Saturday.
Aurora, Giltner, Hampton and High Plains were among 35 schools and approximately 700 entries competing in all three buildings at APS. The contest featured two preliminary rounds for all students participating, followed by championship and honor rounds for the top performers in each round. 
Varsity events medaled first through 15th and novice medaled first through 10th. 
More than 30 volunteers, primarily parents of the AHS speech team members, helped coaches Keli Margritz and Leak Solko to make the day a success. 
Saturday’s results are as follows for Aurora, Giltner, Hampton and High Plains:

Amie Sharp (novice extemporaneous, 1st place); Jessica Rodriquez (novice serious, 8th place); Amie Sharp (novice persuasive, 2nd place); Keri Wagoner (novice persausive, 3rd place); Grace Wieseler (novice persausive, 10th place); Abigail and Adelynne Hendrickson (novice duet, 10th place); Abigail Hendrickson, Jessica Rodrigeuz, Jitse Valkenburg and Adelynne Hendrickson (novice OID, 4th place); Scott Bennett (varsity humorous, 10th place); Jorja Pohlmeier (varsity informative, 7th place); Kim Evans (varsity entertainment, 13th place); Lena Frotetzinger (varsity poetry, 4th place); Sam Elge (varsity serious; 6th place); Scott Bennett (varsity POI, 10th place); Scott Bennett and Lena Groetzinger (varsity duet, 3rd place); Kennendy Kleinschmidt and Derek Evans (varsity duet, 13th place); Sophie Etherton, Same Elge, Derek Wilson, Ansley Harvey and Lena Groetzinger (varsity OID, 7th place). Sweep Stakes: Varsity team -- 6th place, 74 points; 4th place, 47 points.
The Aurora speech team will be competing at the Minden Invite on Saturday, Feb. 10.

Sweep Stakes: Varsity -- 17th place, 12 points; Novice --  15th place, 11 points.
The Giltner Speech Team will be competing at the Minden Invite on Saturday, Feb. 10.
