As harvest rolls along, members of the Giltner FBLA team have rallied for the third year to show their support to area farmers. On Oct. 12, members served meals from the Giltner CPI building to share their thanks.
“The FBLA just wanted to say thank you to all area farmers for their hard work,” FBLA sponsor Jackie Hinrichs voiced. “They are so important to the economy of Nebraska. With the great farmers of our country, we never worry about going hungry.”
To provide for the event, students sell t-shirts to raise funds. She noted that Walmart donated $130 to help purchase food.
“I cooked the pulled pork and the students provided the desserts,” she recalled. “Then with the meal, we had chips and water.”
Looking at the event, some truckers didn’t even have time to get out of their trucks. Instead, students ran out, found out how many meals they needed and brought them out.
Hinrichs noted that by doing this the students realize how important farmers are in Nebraska. She found that the students loved doing the event.
“They help design the t-shirt, carry everything for me and love talking to the farmers if any come in,” she said. “I think it is great to get that connection with the community. I hope to continue this as years go on.”
