Burst pipe closes S and 12 Roads

Aurora’s first response team was called out to a burst gas pipe near the intersection of South S and 12 Roads around noon on June 24.
Brandy Johnson, community affairs manager with Black Hills Energy, reported that a four-inch main was damaged during a construction project.
“There were four customers who temporarily lost service, but it was restored later that day,” she explained. “They had their service cut off due to their location being close to where the damaged line was.”
Johnson noted that they were aided by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Aurora Fire Department to control the scene.
“We appreciate our first responder partners,” she said. “They help keep the scene safe so we can work to stop the flow of gas as quickly and safely as possible and then work to repair the line.”
First responders on scene blocked off the incoming roads to the intersection while the Black Hills Energy crew worked to secure the scene and complete the necessary repairs on the pipe.
Volunteer Fire Department Chief Tom Cox reported that there were no injuries and no fire.
“It was a high pressure, large line,” he said. “We were on the scene blocking the intersection from each direction along with law enforcement.”
He estimated that first responders were on the scene for approximately three hours before the pipe line was secured and it was safe to open the intersection back up.
