Though off of teaching duty for the summer, Aurora choral director Jason Frew was far from out of the limelight. The well-loved teacher was recognized in July as the 2021 Nebraska Choral Directors Association’s Young Choir Director of the Year.
There was no NCDA summer conference in 2021, therefore he was recognized alongside the current year’s winner, but the designation was impactful all the same.
“It kind of gives you another boost,” Frew said on receiving the award. “Because oftentimes there is that apprehension that, ‘Are you doing as much as you can,’ or, ‘Are you really being effective?’ So it’s an encouragement, it’s an affirmation that at least most of the things that you’re doing are working. It breathes life back into what you do, because it’s not only noticed by your students, but it’s noticed by your peers that don’t get to see you every day in the classroom.”
