A food challenge between area fire departments netted almost 9,000 pounds of donations last week, boosting total contributions for this year’s Hamilton County Can-Care-a-Van drive to 42,860 pounds of food.
The end result was a feel-good day involving volunteers from throughout the county who stocked the shelves with much-needed supplies.
“The fire department challenge was just fantastic,” reported Judy Werth, a member of the food pantry board who co-chaired this year’s event along with Kathy Ramsour. “That really did contribute to the day’s total and it was a lot of good competition between the departments.”
The Lincoln-based television station is now in its 17th year with the Can-Care-A-Van, and Werth reported that this is the 15th year Hamilton County has participated.
