The 23rd annual Can Care-A-Van food drive at the Hamilton County Food Pantry will be taking place once again next Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Can Care-A-Van is a great way for the Hamilton County Food Pantry to restock our shelves and serve those in our county with food insecurity,” said board member Bruce Ramsour. “Our Hamilton County citizens continue to show their care, concern and generosity towards their fellow citizens. We anticipate a great outpouring of donations for this event.”
The pantry aims to collect 20,000 pounds of canned food and other nonperishable items during the one-day event. The most needed food and other items are canned fruit, meal soups, pasta sauce, peanut butter, cold cereal, pork and beans, boxed mac and cheese, canned tuna or chicken, laundry detergent and toilet paper.
Cash donations will be counted as two pounds per $1 donated. Money donated will be used to purchase needed items locally.
Community members can deliver their monetary donations to the pantry at 1118 12 N St., in Aurora or mail them to P.O. Box 7, Aurora, NE.
Donors will need to check the expiration dates, as well as for any dents or bulges on canned food before donating.
The 40th annual Can Care-A-Van is supported by 10/11 Show You Care partner Liberty First Credit Union.
Representatives from KOLN/KGIN will be returning to Aurora to help out and cover the event.
