Art Walk Aurora will be returning for its 11th annual at the courthouse lawn Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Event coordinator Cindy McClellan noted that the decision to have the event take place on Sunday once again is due to the large turnout last year.
“We had some patrons who didn’t like that, but we had a lot of traffic,” McClellan said.
Along with returning artists such as Victoria Green and Rick Rasmussen, several artists are eager to showcase their artwork for the first time such as Troy Devine and Sondi Bankson.
Along with browsing the featured artwork, patrons have an opportunity to see and participate with the artists’ during their demonstrations.
“Melinda Montoya is going to do a pottery demonstration,” McClellan noted. “Gabby Brosman is going to be doing a painting demonstration. I’m going to be doing a hands-on art experience where they can make wire flowers.”
Live music will be featured by a musician from the Lincoln musical group Kusi Taki performing in the morning and Miles Jasonowski performing in the afternoon.
The Leadership Center and Snackology will have food trucks present at the courthouse parking lot.
“I have Kazia (Marquez) and Desiree (Christenson) running the face painting, but the Hampton art students are coming over and Cassia is helping,” McClellan explained. “We’re going to be in the bandstand for the face painting this year.”
Thanks to generous donors during this year’s Go Big Give, McClellan said Art Walk was able to increase its social media budget to promote its artist.
“That’s how we’re able to do this event and make it affordable for the artists,” she said.
McClellan encouraged residents within the community to come out to see the hard work put together by local and visiting artists.
“The majority of artists are from Aurora and then Lincoln, Kearney, Hastings,” she noted. “The arts are important so it would be nice to come out and support the artists and musicians.”
Twenty artists will be in attendance this year, including Cindy McClellan, Ruth Simmons, Lillian Larsen, Gabrielle Brosman, Melinda Montoya, Sondi Bankson, Troy Devine, Cindy Powell, Carol Pralle, Andy Gentert, Dana Clements, Victoria Green, Rick Rasmussen, Cathy Kaufman, Lynette Fast, Desiree Christenson, Tanya Grosshans, Kelsey Pralle Gooder, Blue Eyed Bootique, D&M Stained Glass Designs.
