Aurora school Supt. Jody Phillips has announced plans to host two community presentations offering details of a proposed facility project.
Phillips reported last month that four years worth of study on the district’s facility needs have led to two layout options being considered, both anchored with a new high school facility. Phillips noted in September that public events would be planned to offer detailed information while giving the community a chance to ask questions about the proposed plans.
The first community presentation is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 26, beginning at 6:15 p.m. at the Middle School Theater. A second presentation, which will cover the same information as the first, is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 5, also at 6:15 p.m. in the Middle School Theater.
As reported Sept. 16 in detailed ANR coverage, the two layout options both include a new high school facility, as well as improvements at both the middle school and elementary school facilities. The main difference in the proposals is the location and design of the new high school.
The projected cost for the alternative proposals was estimated at $80.8 and $84.2 million.
“These presentations are designed to show our community the current condition of our facilities, the process used to address the needs of our facilities, the specific project identified, the financial impact of the project, and the timeline of future activities,” Phillips explained in a message posted to various platforms on Tuesday. “This has been a very big project with many months of work and effort to get to this point.
“We ask that you plan to attend one of the meetings so we can inform you and allow the opportunity to hear specific information regarding the project,” Phillips added. “Please help spread the word about these meetings (especially to those who reside in our communities that do not have children in school). There are 488 seats in our theater and we would love to have the majority of those seats filled! Thank you in advance for your willingness to participate in this process and helping us finalize the plan to address the needs of our facilities.”
