Area football roundup Week 8

For the second time this season, all four area teams won out on the football field.Despite wild wind conditions, Hampton held on late to defeat St. Edward 48-40, moving its record to 6-1 on Homecoming night. Jack Bullis scored four rushing touchdowns in the game while throwing for a fifth.

No rust for Hampton in return to football competition

Hampton coach Jereme Jones was a bit surprised following Hampton’s 77-20 win at Heartland Lutheran Thursday night. Jones’ pleasant revelation was just how efficient and buttoned up the Hawks played, given Hampton’s 27-day hiatus between contests. “That was a great performance,” Jones began.

Ashby digs path to new single match school record

Reagan Ashby’s defense was a problem for Hastings Thursday night. The Aurora junior set a new school single-match record with 50 digs as the Huskies picked up a four-set win over the Tigers in its regular season home finale, 16-25, 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23. Ashby was scoring 12.

Hampton, Henderson youth merge to form H&H cooperative, win league football title

Hampton and Henderson youth combined efforts and took the field for the first time as a cooperative program in the Farmer’s Valley Youth Football League this fall, capping what coaches said was a positive experience for all by winning the 8-man league championship.

Friday night was heartbreak for multiple area teams on the gridiron.Both Aurora and High Plains lost single possession games to start the month of October as Aurora fell at Adams Central while HPC lost at home to Osceola.

It was a perfect slate for the Aurora volleyball team last week. In two matches, the Huskies picked up a pair of sweeps, one at home over Lexington Sept. 26 before a big road win over Class A North Platte Thursday.

Giltner ground game stiff arms Knights

In a complete contrast of styles, Giltner’s ground and pound mentality won out over Nebraska Lutheran’s aerial attack.With a pair of huge fourth quarter defensive plays, Giltner held on to defeat Nebraska Lutheran 28-16 at home Friday night for its second win of the season.
