An early lead wasn’t enough for Aurora on a windy, raining Saturday morning.
The Huskies took a 1-0 lead, but couldn’t hang on as York rallied to defeat Aurora 2-1 in overtime Saturday to start the B-7 subdistrict tournament.
The loss brings an end to Aurora’s season, finishing with a 3-12 record.
Aurora coach Madison Farris explained after the game that it wouldn’t have been a true Aurora-York game without some bad weather conditions and physical play.
“We fully expected a physical game in tough conditions, and I feel like our guys rose to the challenge in most parts of the game,” Farris said. “The difference in the game was kind of the story all season -- we couldn’t quite finish goal scoring opportunities when we created them.”
In a win-or-go-home scenario, Farris asked three things of his team before Saturday’s game -- effort, communication and confidence.
