Aurora coach Kyle Peterson made a promise to his players following an 0-2 start and a loss to Bennington. If they put their nose down, continued to get better and completely bought in, the Huskies would still be playing in late November and have another shot at the Badgers.
Ten consecutive wins later, both Peterson and the Huskies held up their end of the bargain.
It will be a clash of Class B’s top two seeds as Aurora and Bennington meet in a week two rematch, this time with a state championship on the line inside the hallowed grounds of Memorial Stadium.
Back on Sept. 3, the Badgers won on the road, 55-44. The two teams will meet for a third time in two years as Bennington has won both, including a 31-18 win at home in 2020.
“Bennington has gotten better every single week and so have we,” Peterson noted. “Ultimately, we’ll find out if we’ve made enough growth to be able to flip the win.”
Bennington enters the Class B finals with a perfect 12-0 mark. In fact, its 55-44 win over Aurora was the Badgers closest game of the season.
Aurora trailed by as many as 20 in that game before cutting it to a one possession game on multiple occasions in the second half.
