High Plains has been battle tested all year long. Those experiences paid off over the weekend.
The Storm punched four tickets to this week’s Class D boys state wrestling tournament with a seventh place effort at the D-2 district meet in Pleasanton.
Hudson Urkoski, Gage Friesen, Javier Marino and Wyatt Urkoski all qualified for the state championships, each doing so in their own way.
The Storm had three finalists, including H. Urkoski, Marino and W. Urkoski.
The Urkoski duo each ended the day as district champs while Marino took second.
H. Urkoski won his finals match in a highly competitive 11-8 decision while W. Urkoski was in prime position during a 14-5 major.
Marino ran into a tough matchup with Nickolas Kuehn of Kenesaw, who has one loss on the season. Marino fought tough, but lost a 4-1 decision.
