An up and down afternoon ultimately ended in heartbreak for Aurora's two girls wrestlers at Friday's state wrestling championships.

Natalie Bisbee and Aubrie Beed both won their opening round consolation matches, but neither could come up with wins in the subsequent round.

Bisbee started the day with a 3-0 win in the first round over Kim Gonzalez of Grand Island. In the second round, though, Bisbee trailed Elkhorn Valley's Emerson Penne 3-2. In the final stages of the match, Bisbee appeared to close in on a potential takedown and nearfall, but was ultimately not awarded to her before time ran out on her senior season. Bisbee finished the year with a 32-14 record.

Beed scored an offensive 11-5 win in the opening round over Xitlali Nunez of Minden, but was pinned by Carlie McKibbin of Bayard in the following round to end her junior campaign. Beed finished the year with a 31-10 record.

For the first time since the installment of girls wrestling, Aurora will finish the state championships without a medalist. Bisbee was a sixth place finisher a year ago.
