Melva Green
Melva A. Green, Lincoln, formerly of Aurora, age 94, passed away peacefully at her assisted living home on Wednesday, April 23, 2025. Cremation has been held. Melva was born March 15, 1931, to James and Lucille Loukota on the family farm south of Exeter, and attended country school and graduated from Exeter High School in May 1949. She met her beloved husband of 72+ years at the Consumers Public Power District office in Exeter in 1950, where Glen was building rural power lines. They were married on October 21, 1950 in St. Stephens Catholic Church in Exeter. Glen was called up in the inactive U.S. Marines and ordered to report to Camp Pendleton, in California in 30 days as the Korean Conflict had started. He served in Korea as a Gunnery Sergeant Platoon Leader for a Heavy Weapons and Demolition Unit, where he was wounded and returned home and was honorably discharged in 1952 and received a Purple Heart.
They returned home to York, to resume work for Consumers PPD, now (NPPD). They were blessed with 3 children, James, Sharon and Brian. They enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing with their kids and traveling as a Commissioner for the Cornhusker Boy Scout Council for many years. Glen and Melva traveled to Europe 3 times and enjoyed spending winters in Apache Junction, AZ where they enjoyed dancing, hiking, and gold panning.
During the years in Osceola Melva worked at the Good Samaritan Village in Osceola as an LPN and at the Aurora News-Register as a copy setter. Melva was a devoted homemaker and an exceptional cook. She enjoyed her membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Altar Society in Aurora.
Melva is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Barbara of Lincoln, and Brian and Kendra of Lincoln; her daughter, Sharon Perry of Murfreesboro, TN; her sister-in-law Marilyn Harre of Lincoln; grandchildren Natalie (Scott) Conaway of Murfreesboro, TN, Justin R. Vero of Murfreesboro, TN, Morgan (Dr. J.P.) Rohde of Hendersonville, TN, Richard (Kim) Green of Denver, CO, Laura (Evan) Gahan of Overland Park, KS, Austen Green (Leah) of Lincoln, Stephanie (Paul) Schiefelbeine of Lincoln, Taylor Green of Lincoln, Taylor Bishop of Lincoln, and Trevor Bishop of Lincoln; 13 great-grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial: Saturday, May 10, 2025 at 9:30 a.m. with Rosary beginning at 9:15 a.m. at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church (703 Main Street, Milligan, NE). Fr. Kenneth Borowiak will be Celebrating the Mass. Family will be receiving friends on Friday, May 9 from 5-7 p.m. at Butherus Maser and Love Funeral Home (4040 A Street, Lincoln). Inurnment following Mass at the Bohemian National (South) Cemetery, Milligan, NE.
