Marie Alms
Marie J. Alms, age 89, of York, passed on to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, November 8, 2024 at York. She was born September 10, 1935 to Chris and Irene (Deuker) Regier at Polk. She was united in marriage to Harold W. Alms on September 26, 1954 at St Peter’s Lutheran Church at Hampton. They were blessed with three children: Gerald (Jerry), Linda and John.
Marie was a longtime member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York where she was a member of the LWML and the Dorcas Quilting Circle. She enjoyed playing cards, especially with the Pitch and Chatter Card Club. Marie was a volunteer at the Benedict Voice and loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. Gardening and working with flowers were a favorite pastime of hers.
She is survived by her children: Gerald and Cheryl Alms of Eden Prairie, MN, Linda Schmidt of Columbus, and John and Shawna Alms of York. Her seven grandchildren include: Scott and Jillian Schmidt of Columbus, Lindsay and Talon Darling of Denver, CO, Lt. Colonel William and Lindsey Alms of Bloomington, MN, Kathryn and Brian Hahn of Longmont, CO, Kelsey Schmidt of Columbus, Joslynne and Cole Opbroeck of Hastings and Tyler and Elizabeth Alms of York; and eleven great-grandchildren: Ty and Carter Schmidt, Gwenyth and Norah Darling, Brooklynn, Bennett, Bailey, Lucas and Addison Alms, and Ian Hahn and Jude Opbroeck. Also surviving is a nephew Chris (Amy) Regier of Edmond, OK, brothers-in-law Arthur Alms of Lincoln and Robert (Connie) Alms of Norwalk, OH, and sisters-in-law Jacque Alms of Omaha and Mary Lou Alms of FL.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Raymond, son-in-law Roger Schmidt, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Edgar (Elnora) Alms, Hilda (Melvin) Gottula, LaVerne (Paula) Alms, Marian (Paul) Gruber, Martin Alms, Alvin Alms, Kenneth Alms, Bertie Regier, Marilyn Alms and Ruth Alms.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, November 15, 2024 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in York. Burial will be in York’s Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8 p.m. Thursday with her family greeting friends from 6-7:30 pm, all at the mortuary in York.
