John R. (Jack) Stenger, 88, died of colon cancer at home in Edmonds, WA on April 18, 2022 surrounded by his family.
John Roger Stenger was born on a farm near Stockham on April 21, 1933, the second of 5 children to Hardin and Betsy Stenger.  In 1935 the family moved to Missouri, returning to Hamilton County in 1939.  Jack attended grades 1-8  at District 52 Country School.  During his years at Aurora High School, he was a popular student involved in school activities and sports.  He was a member of the 1949 American Legion baseball team that won the Nebraska Class B State Championship.  During high school, he also worked for Curly Penner at the Jack & Jill store.
After graduation in 1950, he got a job with the CA Dept. of Highways until he was drafted into the Army, which included a tour of duty in Korea.
On November 21, 1953 he married Arleen Percy in Tacoma, WA.  Jack started a coin-operated laundry business and they raised their six children in the Lynnwood, WA area, where he was involved in various businesses, sports, and the Alderwood Manor Community Church where he was a member, teacher, and leader until his death.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Arleen in 2020; son, Danny in 2020; parents, Hardin and Betsy; and brother, Jim.

He is survived by his 5 children, Patty Kirkelie, Peggy Brown, Karen Yakovich, Beth Francis, and John Stenger; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild.  He is also survived by his 3 sisters, Jeanine Murphy and Betsy Jane Mosley of Anacortes, WA; Jennifer Calnon of Mountlake Terrace, WA; many nieces and nephews and friends.
Jack will be greatly missed for his warmth, kindness and ready smile for all and for his love of God, family, and friends.
A memorial service for Jack and Arleen will be held at Alderwood Manor Community Church on Saturday, May 21.  Donations in his memory can be made to World Vision or a charity of your choice.  Cards and thoughts to the family can be mailed to: 22516-88th Ave. W, Edmonds, WA 98020.
