Fern Myers was born on April 15, 1925 in rural Buffalo County, to Louis and Mary (Heermann) Bock. She grew up in Poole, with her brothers, Leo and twins Elmer and Eldor.  After graduating from Pleasanton High School in 1942, Fern attended the Grand Island School of Business, and was employed by Southern Public Power District in Grand Island.
Fern and Dean L Myers were married on May 17, 1947 in Grand Island.  In 1948 they moved to Polk, where Dean was manager of the Farmers Coop Grain Association, and Fern was part-time bookkeeper.  She spent many hours sewing clothes for her four girls.  Fern enjoyed sewing, knitting and baking.  She looked forward to Saturday morning “visitation”, when her family would gather around the kitchen table for her homemade cinnamon rolls and Grandma’s frozen cookies.
Fern was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Polk and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She was a faithful member of the water aerobics class at the Central City Fitness Center well into her 90’s.  She loved reading the newspapers and keeping up on her great-grandchildren’s activities.  She enjoyed reading books by Christian authors, helping her to keep her eyes and mind on the Lord.  She will be remembered for being content in her circumstances.  She was an encourager to her family, friends, and her caregivers.
Fern is survived by her daughters Lynda (Lynn)Sundberg of Cairo;  Marcia (Kenneth) Carlstrom of Polk; Carla Mundt of Aurora and son-in-law William Hokanson of Lincoln; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; brother Eldor (Marilyn) Bock of Pleasanton; and sister-in-law Barbara Myers of Lincoln.
Among those greeting Fern in heaven are her parents, husband Dean, daughter Jolene Hokanson; son-in-law Richard Mundt; brothers Leo and Elmer Bock; and brother-in-law Keith Myers.
