Deryne was born May 2, 1969, in Aurora. The son of Deryle J. and Barbara J. (Brittain) Eastman. He grew up in Giltner, graduating from Giltner High School in 1988. He continued his education at Southeast Community College in Milford, as well as CCC-Grand Island. Deryne married Lisa Grudzinski in November of 1990, in Grand Island. To this union three girls were born, Merissa, Molley and Miranda. Deryne worked in various industries beginning with U-Haul. He obtained a Certified Appliance Repairman Certificate, something he was extremely proud of, completing his training in Tennessee, thus opening the door to his position at Ken’s Appliance. He was a craftsman for Bonnivilla Homes in Aurora, was a CNA at the Nebraska Veteran's Home, and worked at Overhead Door. He was comfortable in his skin and was preparing for his next stage of life with Trish Jensen, his significant other of 12 years. Together they were remodeling their home and filling their table with their bountiful garden goods. At the time of his death Deryne was a blender operator for Diamond Plastics.

Deryne loved helping people, doing whatever he could whenever he was asked. He loved to read absorbing as much information as possible. His thirst for knowledge went hand in hand with this love of debate. He was always up for a “heated” discussion. He studied composting and organic sustainability, applying everything he learned to his personal gardening habits. He loved spending time with his family, especially Friday family pizza night and always looked forward to a ride on his motorcycle.

He will be missed by: his children, Merissa (Reggie) Petersen of Grand Island, Molley (Levi) Stanger of Grand Island and Miranda Eastman of Grand Island; grandchildren, Caedyn, Bentlee, Owen and Lukas Petersen, and Landon Stanger; significant other, Trish Jensen of Grand Island, and her children, Brandeis Jensen of Omaha, Shastity Jensen of Fremont, and Schyler Jensen of Grand Island; mother, Barbara Eastman of Giltner; siblings, Kathi (Kevin) Malone of Waverly, David (Cathy) Eastman of Aurora, Lisa (Dan) Jacobsen of Grand Island, and Kris (Dennis) Smollen of Grand Island.
