‘Girl Dinner’ -- Food at its finest
After a long evening of post-work, household cleaning and productivity, I finally sat down to contemplate supper, or “dinner” as some opinionated individuals may call it.
Exhausted, I had very little desire to thaw any kind of protein or chop any type of vegetable; but still, I was just hungry enough to need something to tide me over for the rest of the night. That is when I decided to pull out a bowl, grab some tortilla chips, and reached into the refrigerator for the salsa.
Between bites, I began to laugh at myself that yes, in fact, I had another successful “Girl Dinner.”
Unfamiliar with this term? Let me fill you in.
Girl Dinner is the small portioned, easy meal you turn to after a tiring day (...or whenever laziness strikes). Any low-effort “meal” you throw together will do, magically turning what is thought to be a side dish/appetizer into the main and only course. The more random and obscure the better.
Examples include: Dinner rolls, mac and cheese, chicken nuggets, and popcorn; the possibilities are endless!
Chips and salsa (or cheese dip) will forever be one of my favorite go-to Girl Dinners. Another one of my favorites usually brings a questionable look on people’s faces when I tell them what it is.
Peas.
Yes, you read that right; a bowl of delicious peas! Just imagine pulling out a bag of microwaved (or boiled if I’m feeling extra ambitious that day) peas and topping it off with some butter, salt, and of course a few dashes of pepper. For me, THAT is “Girl Dinner” at its finest.
Pure simplicity. Pure deliciousness. If it wasn’t too much work to roll out a red carpet and serve it on a golden platter, it would totally be worthy of that as well.
Girl Dinner is as simple and as serious as girl math, but that is a topic for another day.
Some scenarios where this applies might include:
Long day at work? Girl Dinner.
Home alone? Girl Dinner.
Tired and lethargic? Girl Dinner.
Fridge practically empty? Girl Dinner.
Whatever “Girl Dinner” looks like to you, cherish it, as those are precious moments of time that you have kept for yourself instead of slaving over the making of a full force meal. Sometimes the simplest of things in life are the biggest of blessings.
