Evnan has duty to protect NE voter information

Body

Dear Editor:
Hi folks. We have until Friday to persuade of Secretary of State not to share our unredacted voter data. The constitution states this is the state’s responsibility, and as you may know, some states have capitulated to these requests. I don’t want Nebraska’s personal voter information shared. In the history of voting in this country, this has NEVER been requested. It should not be requested, EVER. I’m asking everyone to please write to him this week, call him often and ask him to protect our data! I’ve attached my letter as reference if needed, and thank you for fighting to protect our data and support our rights!
Dear Secretary of State Evnen,
I have called and left messages at your office expressing my concern and faith that you would do the right thing and not release unredacted voter data.
You stated you would wait on Judge Lori Maret’s direction. The Justice Department has been asked why they need unredacted information and have yet to respond to the courts.
I cannot tell you how dismayed I am that you are not waiting for a federal judge rendering and that you are not honoring your oath to the State of Nebraska.
You have a duty-bound obligation as the Secretary of State to protect Nebraska’s voter population privacy!
The Justice Department has NO legitimate reason to request unredacted voter data, and you are under no obligation to send this.
You could send basic data that does not compromise our identity, as many other states have done.
I’m confident I don’t need to remind you, according to the Constitution, the state is responsible for the integrity of any election; Article 1, Section 1, Clause 1, is very clear.
You are to protect Nebraska voters and maintain the integrity of elections. In rendering unredacted information you put the voter in a potentially precarious position of having their voting rights diminished.
As we consider that DOGE unlawfully collected all our personal data for nefarious reasons, and we are hearing the POTUS call for national elections — which completely disregards the Constitution and our rights — I am even more concerned about our data.
As federal judges across the states have ruled that States are NOT required to turn over unredacted data to the federal government, and they perceive this request to be an over-reach of power, as do we, the Nebraska voters.
In closing, I again encourage you to do the right thing, be accountable to your responsibility as Secretary of State, and protect our data.
Elizabeth Ann Ashburn,
Aurora
