Vincent Seiker
Vincent Seiker, of Lincoln, died peacefully in his home in Lincoln, at the age of 97 on Sunday, January 4, 2026. Vincent was born on April 3, 1928, at home in Elmwood, to Mary Cecilia (Stander) and Edward Theodore Seiker. He attended Elmwood Public School and graduated in 1945. Vincent continued his education at Creighton University from 1945 to 1947. He served his country in the United States Army for 2 years and was stationed in Alabama and Alaska during the Korean Conflict. Upon returning from the service, Vince began farming and operating a Grade A dairy operation with his dad. He convinced his dad to build terraces on their land to prevent erosion of the farmland even before that was a common practice.
On August 7, 1954, Vince was united in marriage to Theresa Trausch at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Roseland. Together, Vince and Theresa built a family life in rural Elmwood, living on a farm on the north edge of town. He was a ”Do-It-Yourself” type of guy who repaired his own equipment and could fix nearly anything. Together they raised five children, while Vincent farmed the land for more than 40 years. For 16 years they drove their children 25 miles each way to Lincoln to provide them with a Catholic education. All of their children graduated from Cathedral of the Risen Christ Grade School and Pius X High School in Lincoln. Vince would drive their children during the winter months and worked a number of part-time jobs including his longest job at Abel Hall as a janitor while the children were in school. He was an active member of St. Mary Parish in Elmwood serving as an installed Lector for many years. He mowed the Elmwood Catholic Cemetery and kept the records of the grave locations and marked the graves for the grave diggers. He was an active member of the Cursillo Movement since 1974. In 1974, they decided to tear down their 80-year-old farm home with its leaking roof. They recycled the lumber and many of its contents into a modern ranch-style home. The talents that Vince had developed in woodworking over the years proved to be invaluable in the completion of this project.
Vince retired from farming and he and Theresa moved to Lincoln in 2000 after building another ranch-styled house across the street from St. Peter Catholic Church. Again, he designed and built all the woodwork and cabinets for their new home in Lincoln in his basement shop. In retirement, Vincent spent many hours in his shop listening to Spirit Catholic Radio and KRVN as he worked on an incredible number of woodworking projects for family and friends. But every day of retirement for Vince and Theresa began with them walking across the street to attend morning Mass at St. Peter Church. Vince became an active member of the St. Peter Knights of Columbus. He generously offered his woodworking and carpentry skills as an act of faith and service to numerous church projects around the Diocese of Lincoln. After Theresa died in 2021, Vince has continued to receive 24-hour “In-Home Care” to ensure his safety and prevent him from falling. He maintained a joyful spirit despite gradually losing more and more of his independence. He was blessed to have daily Mass offered in his living room each afternoon by one of his 3 priest sons.
Vincent was preceded in death by parents and sisters: Sister Catherine, RSCJ, Mary Meredith, Anne Pope, and his brother Francis.
Vincent is survived by: sons: Steven (Roma), Omaha, Father Mark, Aurora, Msgr.
