William 'Brad' Buchanan

Body

In Loving Memory of a strong, stoic man

William "Brad" Bradley Buchanan, born Oct. 1, 1961, in Camp Lejeune, N.C., passed away on Nov. 29, 2025, in Aurora, Neb. He leaves behind a legacy of quiet strength, steady love, and a lifetime of hard work done with his own two hands. A man of few words, he never needed many — when he spoke, his voice carried weight, wisdom, and that unmistakable quiet strength everyone knew him for.

He was raised in Deshler and later spent more than ten years in California to be with his Pops, before returning to Nebraska. No matter where he lived, he carried with him a deep work ethic and an incredible talent for fixing anything. He was born with a gift in his hands and  determination in his heart. Nothing was ever thrown away if he could help it — and usually, he could. He believed nothing was ever beyond repair — a principle he carried into every project, big or small. Yard work was his peace, and hanging Christmas lights was his joy, bringing a spark of brightness to everyone around him each holiday season.

On Dec. 14, 1985, Brad married his best friend and the love of his life, Roberta Buchanan. This December would have marked 40 years of marriage — a partnership rooted in loyalty, resilience, and enduring love. He rarely used sentimental words, but those who knew him felt his love clearly in his presence, dedication, and steady resolve.

Over the years, Brad worked for the Aurora Co-op before transferring to the Aurora Ethanol Plant, and later finished his working career at Penner Manufacturing.

He was a beloved father who made life fun in the simplest, most memorable ways — driving fast over “wee bumps” with his girls, working on cars with his son, and soaking up every moment spent together. As a Grandpa, he was playful and gentle, giving “monkey kisses,” offering lawn mower rides, and singing silly songs that made his grandchildren giggle and light up. He was a cherished Grandpa to 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of whom adored him.

Brad treasured time with his siblings, whether trading laughter at the table or taking in a Nebraska Cornhuskers game together — family moments that meant everything to him.

Brad is survived by his wife, Roberta; children, Miranda Tadlock and Jake Switzer, Grand Island; Crystal Harms and JD McConnell, Hope Mills, N.C.; Elizabeth and Jared English, Grand Island; Jennifer Becker and family, Mountain Home, Idaho; and Matthew Buchanan, Aurora.

He is also survived by his siblings, Dave (Jil) Buchanan, Lincoln; Karleen (Lyle) Chandler, Bella Vista, Ark.; and Crystal Conroy, Elkhart, Iowa.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents, William Leroy Buchanan and Dixie LaVonne Buchanan, and his grandparents.

Simple, hardworking, and dependable, Brad filled life with purpose and love expressed through action. His hands built, his lights sparkled, and his presence steadied all who leaned on him. He will be profoundly missed and forever carried in the hearts of his family.
