Lady Huskies statebound
For a 12th consecutive season, the Aurora girls cross country team is headed for Kearney.
The Lady Huskies scored a runner-up effort during Thursday's B-4 district meet in Overton while placing four in the top 11.
Seward won the girls team battle with 22 points while Aurora wasn't far behind at 35. The Lady Huskies went 7-8-9 in the finishing order with seniors Ella Eggleston, Lexi Ericksen and junior Kailey Dick breaking the tape one after another. Eggleston finished with a time of 21:10.93 with Ericksen running 21:17.25 and Dick finishing at 21:20.64.
Freshman Makinley Eggleston earned an 11th place finish with a time of 21:37.66 while senior Savanna James rounded things out in 19th with a mark of 22:02.46. Josie Daugherty ended up 35th with a time of 24:10.18.
This is the sixth time in the past 12 seasons the Aurora girls earned a district runner-up trophy and has also won four district titles over that span.
While the same streak was unable to continue on the boys side, Jayden Slagle earned the right to represent the Huskies in Kearney next week. Slagle ran with the leaders and brought home a fourth place finish, coming in at a time of 16:53.42.
As a team, Aurora finished fifth with 77 points, outside the top three spots to qualify. Those spots went to Norris, Northwest and Scottsbluff.
For the Huskies, Carson Krejci finished 22th with a time of 18:39.46, Brooks Handrup 24th with a time of 18:49.47, Grady Moody 27th with a time of 18:57.32, Colton Sigler 28th with a time of 18:57.71 and Grayson Oswald 48th with a time of 21:07.51.
