It was a tough second weekend for area football teams with the calendar officially flipped to September.

Aurora's home opener was crushed by a McCook fourth quarter comeback as the Bison rallied to a 27-20 win over the Huskies. McCook rallied with two scores in the fourth quarter to flip a 20-14 Aurora lead to a 27-20 win for the road Bison as Aurora falls to 0-2 on the season with a date against the defending champs in Wahoo next week.

High Plains was looking for a 2-0 start and had a lead for nearly three quarters over Palmer before a wild fourth ensued. Both teams scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, including three scores in the final 1:36 of regulation to force overtime.

After Palmer scored in the first overtime, HPC threw an interception on its offensive series to end the game with a 36-28 Tiger victory as the Storm falls to 1-1.

Giltner played at home for the first time against Weeping Water as the Indians picked up an 88-24 win. Giltner is now 0-2 on the season.

As for the Hawks, Hampton had a bye for week two and will travel to Harvard next Friday to continue its season, which is off to a 1-0 start.
