Aurora High alum still appreciates Husky Pride

Dear Editor:
I am reaching out brag to you about my hometown, Aurora, even though you do not need to be reminded as you live it every day.
Last Monday night (March 3) I was able to bring my oldest daughter, Charlotte, who is a freshman at Gretna East High School, back to my hometown where I am a proud Aurora alum. We were there to cheer on her classmates and got the chance to visit one of the best places in the state to play.
On the drive down I-80 I was bragging about our hometown and how there is no other community that supports its school like Aurora does. It did not disappoint as the parents, fans and administration of GEHS were complimenting the school spirit and atmosphere. They left that night knowing what Husky Pride meant. The facilities and school continue to be at the front of the line, but that is not what separates Aurora, it is the people and the community. It is the Doug Kittles, the Cody Hoeghs, the Steve Alberts, the Paul Grahams, to name a few. This is just a sample of the people who are symbols for what makes Aurora the gem of Central Nebraska and Aurora Public Schools a leader in public education.
Every day I draw off my experiences and admiration for my hometown and my alma mater on how to do things the right way. In Gretna we are growing so much so we needed a second high school, but we try to hold our community values that are at our core something I witnessed in Aurora.
Last Monday night with a date change due to the weather the gym was packed, energetic, and sportsmanship off the charts by all. Only one thing exceeded my pride in our Griffins making their first state tournament in school history, which was my pride in the community of Aurora and Aurora Public Schools as they continue to thrive and lead.
Some things get lost in a metro area, but that sense of community where most of us come from always resonates and we strive to put pieces of that into our schools here just as you do in Aurora.
To Aurora Public Schools and the community, thank you for the foundation you gave me years ago and please know the example you set is one admired not only in the public-school setting, but as a thriving community in the state. Husky Pride!
