Harlan Braun

Body

Harlan Braun, age 96, of Henderson, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, November 4, 2024 in Henderson. Harlan entered the world on November 20, 1927 as the third child of Jacob I. Braun and Marie Regier Braun on the family farm a mile west of Henderson, the same house built by his great grandfather and where Harlan also raised his family.
He attended country grade school at District 73 East of rural Henderson and then graduated from Henderson High School in 1945.  On November 5, 1944 he was baptized in the Blue River south of Henderson by Rev. H. B. Kliewer. He then joined the Henderson Mennonite Brethern Church.  Later in 2000 he joined Bethesda Mennonite Church.
After graduation Harlan helped on the family farm.  In 1952 he left Henderson for voluntary service in Topeka, Kansas at Topeka State Hospital.  He then returned home to farm. He married Nancy Quiring of Enid, Oklahoma on September 28, 1958 and they were blessed with two children.
Harlan and Nancy enjoyed serving the church in various capacities. Service opportunities included janitorial duties, hospitality committee, Board of Trustees, usher, youth fellowship leader, Deacon Board and catering committee. At Bethesda he enjoyed the fellowship and service opportunities on the funeral committee. This love for serving the church started when he walked with his father from his house across the field East to start the furnace for church services at the Mennonite Brethren Church.  He also enjoyed traveling with his wife. Lifetime travel highlights included a trip to Mexico City as part of the Henderson Coop Board and to Novia Scotia as part of a celebration of 50 years of marriage.
After retirement he enjoyed continuing to help on the farm, maintaining the yard, gardening and canning salsa.  He especially enjoyed his three granddaughters and attending their activities.  Later, he also enjoyed attending their weddings and getting to know their husbands. Two great-grandsons greatly added to the blessings and joy of Harlan’s life.
Preceding Harlan in death were his parents Jacob I. and Marie Braun, sisters Alene Braun Ediger, Frieda Braun Neufeld, Esther Braun Ediger, Hannah Braun Morehead, and brother Wesley Braun.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Nancy Braun of Henderson, son Gary (Lavonne) Braun of Henderson, daughter Karen Braun of Henderson, granddaughters Lauren (Shane) Lindburg of Stromsburg, Allison (Torry) Seiler of Kearney, and Leslie (Brenner) Keane of Kearney, great-grandsons Myles Seiler and Briggs Lindburg, sisters Lillian Braun Witzel of Reedley, CA and W.
