Aurora claims district title
The Aurora boys and girls cross country teams brought home plenty of hardware from Thursday's C-4 district meet.
The Husky boys claimed a district championship while Lexi Ericksen won the girls race and helped the Aurora girls to a district runner-up crown during Thursday's C-4 district race in Minden.
Charlie Evans paced the boys team with his runner-up effort, finishing in 17:09.32, five seconds off the winning time of Milford's Avery Carter. Jayden Slagle made it a 2-3 finish for Aurora, coming in at 17:31.55 while Evan Hermanson was 10th at 17:50.86.
The Huskies earned the team title with 31 points, edging Minden's 42, both teams well ahead of the field.
Ericksen set a blistering pace in the girls race, winning with a time of 20:09.83, 30 seconds ahead of the field. Ella Eggleston added a top five finish at 21:25.70 while Kailey Dick, Savanna James and Braxtyn May finished in a row, 15-17.
The girls were just off the winning mark, totaling 37 points behind Minden's 24.
Both the boys and girls teams are set to compete in the Class C state cross country meet Oct. 25. It's now the 11th year in a row both the Aurora boys and girls teams are statebound.
