MCHI reopens its health clinic in Harvard
Staffing transition had prompted a temporary closure
Memorial Community Health, Inc. celebrated the re-opening of its health clinic in Harvard last week with a meet and greet open house introducing medical staff to the community.
In September of last year, Memorial Health Clinic was forced to make the tough decision to temporarily close its Harvard location pending provider changes and the recruitment of new family medicine providers. Last week’s open house sent the message that MCHI now has a full staff of providers on board to serve all of its clinic locations in Aurora, Clay Center and once again Harvard with comprehensive family medical care for all ages.
“We didn’t take that decision lightly,” stated Brandi Nigro, Memorial Health Clinic manager. “At the time, we were experiencing changes in provider schedules, a couple were taking leave for exciting life events such as having babies, and we were also awaiting the arrival of new providers to join our team. Now that we’re at this point, we are excited to have staffing levels that provide the capacity to cover all three of our clinic locations.”
CEO Justin Wolf was among the MCHI staff members greeting local residents in Harvard.
“We’re happy to be back in Harvard,” Wolf said. “We had more additions to the MCHI family than we were planning for, so we’re happy that the community was patient with us while we worked through some provider challenges, staffing wise, in Aurora. We’re actually pleasantly surprised at how easy it was for our providers, for the staff, to be able to want to come back here, so we appreciate the community’s patience on us getting our act together.”
Located at 203 E Walnut in Harvard, the clinic will be open on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 4:30 p.m. Providers who will regularly be at the Harvard clinic location include Logan Mertlik, PA-C, on Wednesdays, and Kachine Banahan, APRN, FNP-C, on Thursdays.
“I’m excited to reopen Harvard,” Mertlik said. “I think it’s a very close-knit community and by the showing at the open house there is a good group of people that I think are excited for us to be back in town. I think we’re excited to be able to provide care for them and help them not have to drive quote as far, down to either Clay Center or Aurora. I’ve enjoyed my time down in Clay Center, so I’m looking forward to seeing new and more patients in Harvard on Wednesday afternoon.”
Wolf noted that patients coming to the Harvard clinic for assistance will receive a wide range of medical care.
“It will be a full spectrum of daily medicine, which includes limited diagnostics, limited lab and limited procedures, but we can be the nexus to get you started,” he explained. “If we can’t do it here, we have a connection to how we can do it elsewhere, but we can actually do a lot of things here locally in the county, and we’re here two days a week now instead of one day a week.”
