Robert E. Sandstrom passed away at Memorial Community Care in Aurora, on December 24, 2023 at the age of 90.   A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 2 at Westside Covenant Church in Aurora, Rev. Robert Sandstrom was born to David T. and Clara (Bloomquist) Sandstrom on July 12, 1933 in Holden, MA. Bob attended and graduated from North High School, Worcester, MA class of 1951. He obtained his Broadcasting certificate from Emerson College, Boston, MA in 1952.   Bob served his country in the United States Army from May, 1952 – May, 1954 where he had the unique opportunity of being the photographer as well as charged with interviewing and recording soldiers stories.   He served in the Army Reserves until April, 1961.   After his discharge in 1954, Bob spent time in the broadcasting field, which he said was really the most fun job he ever had.
Bob married Judith A. Carlstrom on December 9, 1961 in Worcester, MA.   He worked in the wire, felt and paper mill industries in the human resources department where he also had the responsibility of negotiating union contracts.   He was very involved in his churches serving in various capacities, which included church chairman, worship leader, choir member and finance and building committees.   Bob also served on the board of the Cromwell Children’s Home in Cromwell, CT.
Bob and Judy raised their family in Worcester, MA and Holden, MA.   He and Judy retired in 1999 to Florida, and in 2013 moved to Aurora.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Judy, daughter Lisa and her partner Jay Harvey, sister and brother-in-law Isabelle and Stanley Richardson, brother and sister-in-law David and Janet Sandstrom. 
Those left to cherish his memory are daughters Kristina “Tina” (Karl) Larson of Aurora, Linda (Pablo) Perez of Santa Barbara, CA, son Glenn and partner Rachel Parent, of Evanston, IL, granddaughters, Emily (Joel) Dykema of Arlington Heights, IL, Kathryn Larson, Elizabeth Larson and Ella Grace Sandstrom of Aurora, and great-grandson James Dykema of Arlington Heights, IL, his brother-in-laws Steven (Cindy) Carlstrom of Ellijay, GA, and David Carlstrom of Auburn, MA and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The family would like to express its gratitude for the staff at Memorial Community Care for their wonderful care and to AseraCare Hospice who assisted during a difficult time.
