J. C. Cranfill
J.C. Cranfill, age 94, of Aurora, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.
J.C.’s wishes were to be cremated and No Services will be held. Memorials may be made in care of the family to designate at a later date. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.
J.C. Cranfill, the son of Ed and Ina (Spiva) Cranfill, was born in Indiahoma, Oklahoma on September 29, 1929 and passed away in Aurora, on October 3, 2023, at the age of 94.
He grew up in Indiahoma and graduated from Indiahoma High School. He then went on to Hills Business University in Oklahoma City. J.C. then served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War, stationed at Ulm, Germany. He was discharged in January of 1953. Following his discharge he worked for the Oklahoma Highway Patrol for three years until he attended Oklahoma A & M, which is now Oklahoma State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture in 1957. After his graduation he moved to Nebraska.
J.C. was united in marriage to Wanda Smith on July 13, 1957. After their marriage he worked for the University of Nebraska as a County Agent Assistant to Corwin Mead in Hamilton County, taking over as County Agent when Mead retired. He then went on to receive his Master of Science Degree from University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1968. J.C. worked as a County Agent for 30 years in Hamilton County. After his retirement he worked for Cargill for 10 years, then went to work for Heartland Co-op where he trained scouts for insects, weeds and agronomy for eight years and finally for eight more years for the Co-op Mutual Insurance Company in Omaha for misapplication of chemicals. Wanda passed away on May 28, 1994.
J.C. was a member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Lodge and the Aurora United Methodist Church. He loved to go to Scottsdale, Arizona during the Nebraska winters.
He received many honors during his years in Aurora, including Agriculture Distinction Award, Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society of Agriculture Award of Merit, Nebraska Cooperative Extension Service Distinguished Extension Agent Award, Champion County Agent Award, Aurora Chamber of Commerce Public Service Award and the Robert Carrell Jordan Freemason Award.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Those who remain to cherish his memory are his sons, Steve of Dallas, TX and Greg of Scottsdale, AZ.
