Avis Lorene Black

Body

Avis Lorene Black passed away peacefully on August 25, 2023, at her home in Las Vegas, NV, surrounded by her children, family, and friends. She was 89 years young.
Memorial services are not firm as of yet but “A’ROR’N Days” 2024 in Aurora may be the preferred date.
Lorene, as she was known by her family and friends, was born on February 8, 1934, in Tellico Plains, Tennessee to James Farley and Dora Winnie Mae (Shadden) Graves.
The Graves family moved to Ontario, California in 1950 where Lorene attended Chaffey High School in Ontario. In 1953 she met and married William “Bill” Black and became the (most of the time) proud parents of five children, Steve, Douglas, Brenda, Billie and Lisa.
Lorene spent most of her adult life raising her five children. The next chapter of her life was a career in real estate in Las Vegas, NV where she sold residential properties for a number of years.
She spent most of her life in Tennessee, Las Vegas, NV, and Aurora. She also lived in the Los Angeles and San Francisco areas of California and in Oklahoma and Florida.
Lorene was also a big fan of TV shows “Gunsmoke”, and “Wheel of Fortune”, and never missed an episode of “Jeopardy.” She also became a diehard fan of the Las Vegas Raiders football team and the Golden Knights hockey team but none were more important than her beloved Nebraska Cornhuskers.
She was also a devoted Christian and would watch her “preacher man” Pastor Arnold Murray at least an hour a day every day. Her faith was the pillar of her life.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill Black;  son Steve Black; grandson Joey Del Balzo; siblings Gilbert Graves, Belva Nadine Jones, Leon Graves, Jimmy Graves, and Dee Graves.
Lorene is survived by her children, Douglas Black, Brenda Black, Billie Black, and Lisa and Ken Beach. Forever remembered and loved by her grandchildren and their spouses; Ryan (Liz) Black and Megan Black (Alex) and their mother Ann Black; Jimmy (Jacinda) Roberts and Lisa Roberts; Amber (Courtney) Rossiter and Jacob (Brianna) Jansen; Kenny (Ronni) Beach, Brittney Beach, and Logan (Trevor) Beach; and 12 great-grandchildren. As well as many special family and friends.
Anyone who knew Lorene would say that she was as kind a person as they had ever met. Her legacy of kindness will continue to inspire and remind us all of the importance of treating others with the same love and respect that she so effortlessly exemplified. As we reflect on the profound impact she made, let us honor Lorene’s memory by carrying her spirit of unwavering kindness forward in our own lives.  May she find eternal peace in the embrace of those that she always knew she would see again.
She will be eternally missed.
