John Ryan

John M. Ryan, 84, of Phillips passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at All Faiths Funeral Home. Dan Naranjo will officiate. Burial will follow at Phillips Cemetery.

John was born on April 9, 1938 in York, son of Melvin and Ella (Nelson) Ryan.  He graduated from St. James Catholic School in York. He met Dorothy Hoffschneider and they were married on November 16, 1957. They made their home in Longmont, CO, McCook, Holdrege before settling in Phillips in 1960.
John owned and operated Marlatt and Ryan Construction for many years before joining the team at Lacy Construction. He recently retired from Sears as the Auto Center Manager.
He was active in the Lions Club on the Phillips Village Board and on the Phillips Fire Department, serving as Fire Chief.
He loved to hunt and fish; many sunny days were spent at the cabin at Sherman Lake. John enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
John is survived by his children, John (Kenia) Ryan Jr. of Houston, TX, Suzanne (Tyler) Phelps of Beatrice, Duane Ryan of Lincoln, and Wendy (Tim) Hicks of Douglas; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2019; brothers, Mike and Tom; and sister, Maureen.
