Virginia Scott
Virginia Lee Scott, daughter of Clarence A. and Ruth Ellen (Lisle) Weddle, was born February 24, 1934, at home, west of Grant City, MO. Virginia grew up near Grant City and graduated from Grant City High School in 1952. Following graduation, she attended college for secretary/bookkeeping.
Virginia was united in marriage to Harold Scott on May 20, 1952 at Grant City, MO. After their marriage, they lived in Ashland for a couple of years before moving to Aurora in the mid-1950’s where they established their home and raised their children. Julia Fern was born in 1955, John Andrew in 1956, and Terry Lee in 1957. Virginia was an active and loving wife and mother. She was her kid’s Girl Scout and Cub Scout troop leaders and worked as a secretary for Henderson Irrigation and a secretary/bookkeeper for the church in Aurora for many years. Virginia loved to bake, and she will always be remembered for her delicious food.
In the1980’s, Virginia and Harold moved to Mount Ayr where she would remain for the rest of her life. She was the secretary at the First Christian Church until she retired. She helped tirelessly with Breakfast With the Master each Easter season, funeral luncheons, and other activities. Virginia loved her children and loved the visits from her grandchildren.
Virginia passed away on November 27, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Harold on July 10, 2008; brother William (Bill) Weddle.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children and their families Julia Scott of Omaha; John (Jane) Scott of Sheridan, Wyoming, their daughter Morgan (Jimmy) Coombs and their granddaughter Emma Coombs, son Derek Scott; Terry (Kathryn) Scott of Lincoln, their son Justin Scott, Nickolas Scott, Michael Scott and his children Samantha, Luna, Amelia, Melia, Archie, Skylar, daughter Katie (Ben) Miller and their children Daniel, Jacob, Isaac; brother Curtis (Linda) Weddle of Maryville, MO; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Memorials are to the First Christian Church and the food bank at the Neighborhood Center. Funeral Services were held at the First Christian Church in Mount Ayr, Iowa on Thursday, December 2, 2021. Burial was in the Maple Row Cemetery in Kellerton, Iowa. Armstrong Funeral Home in Mount Ayr was in charge of the arrangements for Virginia Scott.
