Huskies battle at state track
Jayden Slagle was the top dog in Class B's triple jump all season long and that didn't change at Omaha Burke Stadium.
The Husky senior won gold in Wednesday's Class B triple jump event, going 47-4.25 to cap off his high school career. Slagle also earned a fourth place effort in Thursday's long jump with a leap of 22-5.25.
Slagle wasn't the only jumper to win medals at the state championships as Stella Peterson and Kaitlyn Staehr also collected some hardware.
Peterson collected two medals in her first state championships, finishing seventh in the long jump with a mark of 17-5.75 while also taking fifth in the triple jump at 37-00. Staehr just snuck her way into the triple jump finals as the ninth of nine in before earning a silver medal, going 38-1.50.
Those two weren't done there, though, as they also ran on the 400 relay team alongside Savanna James and Jordyn Slagle, finishing just outside the medals in ninth but running a school record time of 49.33.
Derek Russell picked up two medals for the Husky boys, finishing second in the discus with a toss of 185-1 while also taking eighth in the shot put at 54-4.25.
Colten Nachtigal earned his first state medal in the 110 high hurdles, finishing fourth in the final with a time of 14.87. He also finished with a PR time of 41.64 in the 300 hurdles, 17th overall.
Peter Russell ended his Aurora pole vault career with an eighth place medal and a mark of 13-6.
