A retired Lincoln firefighter who lost his bid for Nebraska secretary of state in the primary election told a small group in Aurora last week why he has shifted his goals and is now running for governor as a write-in candidate.
Robert Borer spoke with passion during a one-hour presentation at the Bremer Center, breaking down in tears several times while explaining his faith, vision for change and campaign motivation.
“It was never about me,” he said. “This was about a cause. This was about government of, by and for the people.”
Borer was defeated in the Republican primary by incumbent Bob Evnen, who received 98,263 votes, compared to Borer’s 72,150 votes, according to official results posted on the Nebraska Secretary of State’s website. Rex Schroeder also received 53,628 votes in the GOP primary.
