Phillips fourth celebration is on!

Body

Folks, I’m happy to share that there are things to share this week! We’ve been in such a small, isolated slice of time that getting together with your neighbors and chatting faceto-face (with space!) seems newsworthy all by itself.

Phillips July 3rd Independence Day celebration is happening, with some changes and accommodations. Social distancing guidelines will be observed. Family groups and attendees are encouraged to stay 6 feet apart from others. The Phillips Community Foundation is hosting a barbecue dinner at the Memorial Hall, 501 3rd Street, from 5-8 p.m. Bbq pork meals, $5, and hot dog meals, $4, are available for carry-out and in-village delivery. They’ll begin taking delivery orders at 4:30 p.m., to be delivered after 5 p.m. Call 402-886-2324 to place your order. Limited dining room seating will be available in the building. Scouts from Troop 28 will be serving $1 root beer floats from 6-10 p.m. outside the building. There will not be a street dance or beer garden. The fireworks display will start at 10 p.m. Spectators are encouraged to bring chairs or watch from their vehicles and practice social distancing for the safety of friends and neighbors. Thanks to Phillips Community Foundation, the Phillips Pirates Ball Program, and the Phillips Volunteer Fire Department for fundraising and organizing this event for our community. Donations towards next year’s festivities are encouraged; just drop it in the boot!

Phillips UMC will begin live worship services starting on July 5 at a new time - 9 a.m. Anyone attending is asked to wear a mask into and out of the building. Family groups and attendees are asked to sit at least six feet apart while in the sanctuary. Once seated, masks may be removed. At this time we will not have fellowship time, but are hopeful that we can begin something like that soon! Pastors Greg and Michelle Reed will continue to post worship and learning videos to social media for those that are unable to attend. If you have questions, prayer requests or need to contact the church, please email phillipsumc2018@gmail.com.

The Phillips Community Foundation is participating in Go Big Give on July 7. Donations can be made at www.gobiggive.org.

The Phillips Memorial Hall will be available again for functions as health measures are lightened. The small party room accommodates up to 50 guests and the large room will hold up to 600. For information on reserving the building, please call 402-886-2324.

The Phillips Church library is lending books; please email mgnkny@gmail.com, and include Library in the subject line. While the library is not open for browsing, thanks to Marcia Spiehs, we have a good selection of books and a thorough list of what’s available. We are limiting checkouts to five books at a time and returned books will be isolated for a period of time before being returned to the shelves. Full details for borrowing and returning books can be shared via email.

If you would like something to be included in this section, please email me at mgnkny@gmail.com.
