The Phillips alumni banquet has been a staple for the high school’s graduates since the beginning of its time and it remains that way today, despite a declining number of surviving alumni.
According to a news article published in the Aurora Republican on June 6, 1923, the second annual banquet took place at the high school. This, if history tracks, would put the first-ever banquet happening more than 100 years ago.
This historical information was gathered by local historian Terri Mabon, who has a special tie to Phillips history.
“My husband, Dave Mabon, was a member of the last class that graduated from Phillips high School,” she said in an email. “The year was 1966.”
