Basketballs were bouncing in Hampton all weekend long as the fifth annual Be Greater Today Hoops Classic drew 67 boys and girls youth teams to the community.
Event founder Mike Herzberg said he continues to be amazed by the support and growth of the annual event, noting that he actually had to turn some teams away this year due to time and space limitations.
“We have 36 boys teams (Saturday) and 31 girls teams today, so it’s been great,” Herzberg said during a Sunday afternoon break. “We only have so many courts and gyms so we’re near our capacity, but we have lots of great help.”
A highlight this year for Herzberg was seeing so many Hampton alumni return with their own youth teams, helping support the tournament while also connecting with family and friends.
“It’s great to see so many former Hawks like Tony Chapman, Trevor Hoegh and Josh Klute bringing their kids back to play,” he said.
