Giltner Public Schools board members approved plans Monday to hire Kelsey Swantek as the district’s first agricultural teacher, starting in June of next year.
Board members are harvesting a young crop in Swantek, who is still attending the University of Nebraska-Lincoln until the end of the spring semester, but the interview process left school administrators confident that she will be the right fit for the start of an ag program hosted in the former bus barn.
“We had two people interested and we went with her,” Supt. Nick Mumm said. “She just had a wonderful personality. She seemed very kind, the love for kids, the ideas that she already has…the way she is going to react to our kids, support our kids and teach them.”
Mumm, who was involved in the interview process, described that Swantek had a big interest in animal sciences and wanted to start an FFA program at Giltner. He also said that she has a strong work ethic that elevated her in the interview.
