Giltner Daze adds new events to celebration

The Village of Giltner kicks off summer its annual Giltner Daze celebration this weekend, and two new events including a team scavenger hunt and the Battle Bus Mobile Arcade. 
Starting off the Giltner Daze weekend will be a women’s 3-person 9-hole golf scramble on Friday at 12:30 p.m. at the Crooked Creek Club in Clay Center. The event is hosted by Little Stingers Childcare and those wishing to register can contact Mandy Eastman.
Taking place Friday evening is the 13th annual Giltner Alumni Dinner to be held at the Giltner Community Center starting at 6 p.m.
Saturday begins with the Giltner FFA Fun Run at 8 a.m. Registration for the 5K race will start at 7:30 a.m., with the entry fee being $20. For more information, contact Kelsey Schulte at kschulte@giltnerschool.us.
At 9:30 a.m., the Brotherhood of the Platte medieval reenacting group will return to Giltner Park to present their fighting demonstration and to  share the history of medieval equipment and chivalry.
Kids and adults alike have the chance to go the distance and compete in a tractor pull competition starting at 10 a.m. The kids’ competition is divided by age, and the top three drivers in each division will be given tickets to compete in the Nebraska State Fair Tractor Pull.
A penny dig, sponsored by Allan and Gayla Coats, will take place at 11 a.m. by the water tower. Families can dig as many coins as they can find.
Several more activities will be available to families, including a bounce house, mini golf, face painting, as well as new activities this year – Zipline Extreme and the Battle Bus Mobile Arcade from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The fourth annual Giltner Daze Car Show will kick into high gear with registration beginning at 9 a.m. and the car show running from noon to 4 p.m. Up to 80 vehicles have preregistered, with the car show maxing out at 200 this year for vintage and classic cars of all eras.
Trophies will be awarded to the first, second and third place winners and to the top 40 vehicles of the car show. Those participating in the car show will have the chance to win door prizes, goodie bags and plaques. Prizes will also be awarded for the top three motorcycles and one lucky tractor will receive a trophy.
The Mini Wheels Car Show is for golf carts, ATVs, go-karts and Power Wheels. The entry fee per vehicle is $20.

For the first time, the Giltner Booster Club will be hosting a Hornet Hustle Scavenger Hunt. Starting at 1 p.m., teams of up to four people will be tasked with finding and taking pictures of items found around town within an hour for a chance to be one of the top three teams to win a cash prize. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m., and the entry fee is $20.
The money raised from the scavenger hunt go to school activities and to support students and teachers at Giltner Public Schools.
At 2 p.m., driving skills will be put to the test with the blind golf cart challenge near the park. Cash prizes will be available, with the third-place team winning 20 percent of the pot, the second-place team 30 percent, and the first-place team 50 percent.
The annual Giltner Daze volleyball tournament will start at 10 a.m., with up to four teams allowed, and each may have as many substitutes as they want. Teams will be required to have two women per team. The entry fee to participate is $80 per team. A cash prize will be awarded to the first-place team. Food trucks will be parked near the area throughout the day, offering a variety of food to visitors. Food trucks include Mexcellent Grill for both breakfast and lunch, Daylight Donuts, Pour Horse Coffee, Le-Vi Kettle Corn and the Snow Shaved Ice Truck.
Beginning at 11 a.m., attendees can get ice cream inside the Giltner Community Center or grab lunch at Sit-n-Bull. The Lions Club will be also serving lunch from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. inside the Community Center. The club will be providing pulled pork, cowboy beans and chips.
The Giltner Fire Department will be collecting non-perishable food from noon to 4 p.m. All the food donated will go to the Hamilton County Food Pantry.
