Aurora’s Future Problem Solvers got to get up close and personal with the town’s infrastructure as members learned all about how water makes its journey from the wells to local houses.
Doug Monson, a volunteer with the FPS team shared the lessons learned and how the day impacted the students.
“The kids are studying water supply so what we wanted to do at a local level is have them understand where the water comes from,” he explained. “We visited a well for them to see and understand the testing that’s involved and all the precautions that are taken to make sure our drinking water is safe and to realize that we don’t add anything to our drinking water supply.”
They then wanted to follow the water through the whole cycle, from the water tower to the treatment plant. While some rain may have shifted their plans to tour the outside of the treatment plant, students were still able to go and view them.
After they learned about the local water supply, the students heard from the Upper Big Blue NRD to gain insight into water usage with farmers, regionally, throughout the state and compared to other states.
